Menstrual myths?

Hello all, first post.

I'm writing something about menstruation and sex for one of my adult sites, and I was wondering if I could get some help listing stupid myths people have about periods, especially to do with periods and sex. (Such as: menstruation is gross and embarassing, menstruation is akin to a disease or injury, you shouldn't have sex on the rag, or that women need feminine hygeine products to keep "clean".)

I've heard people say that you can't get pregnant while you're on your period.

Well, it's half true, but still a dangerous rumor to rely on. If you've reached the point in your period that your egg has been expelled, you're in the clear. But there's no way of knowing when that happens, it's one cell in billions. Plus, if the sperm stays alive in your body for X number of days, and you have a wacky cycle which causes "irregular" ovulation earlier in your cycle, you could get pregnant afterwards, as well. Best way to not get pregnant when you have hetero sex at any time of the month is to get sterilized, use hormonal contraception, and/or condoms. "Natural methods" should only be used by people who won't have a major panic attack when it fails and results in a fetus to deal with, one way or the other.

there used to be folklore in pre-christian england that a woman's blood sprinkled on the crops would make higher yeild. after the advent of christianity, women on their period weren't even allowed in the fields lest the taboo blood-mojo mess up everything. that's probably not the type ofcontemporary myth that you're looking for, but it stuck in my mind from a women's studies class years ago- most of my class was like: "blood? sacred? what-huh?" also, i have no source. good luck on your project:)

WEll, menstrual blood is actually pretty rich in nutrients, so it is a great fertilizer. That much is true.

That funny because I was just talking to my online friend yesterday about sex on your period. He refuses to do it because he doesn't like the smell of blood-but he doesn't mind receiving a blow job. I wanted to just wack my screen when he said that.
