Oct. 1st, 2005 12:50 pmI'm having some period troubles. It all started in August, when my cycle was 38 days long. I'm usually between 30-31 days. I attribute the lateness to me breaking up with my boyfriend and the fact that I left for a cruise on the day I got my period. Those things make sense to me. There's no way I could be pregnant because I'm a virgin.
This month, if I was to stay on my 38 day cycle, I would've been due on Monday. However, I have been kind of freaking out about it, so much so that I took a pregnancy test on Tuesday because I was really freaked out. I didn't know if my boyfriend had semen on his hands or anything while he was down there. Anyway, long story short, I'm kind of a worry-wort. The test was negative.
The thing is, I still haven't got my period. I feel symptoms of PMS, like mood swings and stuff, but I still don't have it. I'm incredibly frustrated and freaked out. Could it be this late because I'm so stressed about it? Also, last Monday (the 19th) my boyfriend put me through a lot of emotional stress because he's kind of depressed and was speaking of killing himself, etc. I cried for a while and was so freaked out all day that I didn't know what to with myself. (He's since went to a counselor - he's getting help.) Could that have something to do with the lateness?
I'm sorry if this question seems repetitive or stupid, I just don't know what to think. Any advice or knowledge you can give would be really, really appreciated.

Date: 2005-10-01 05:05 pm (UTC)Menstrual cycles do things like this. I'd assume you also began school this month, waking up earlier and being busy after a semi-relaxing summer. Its also getting colder outside and the weather is changing to autumn in a lot of areas- thats a common culprit of cycle changes.
Do you keep track of your cycles? 38 dyas is not super long. In a natural (not hormonally regulated period) some women find that they will skip cycles or have strangely long (for them) cycles- all normal, unless you begin to miss a lot of cycles. At that point, it is worth mentioning it to you doctor.
You are normal and seem healthy. Your body knows what it is doing. Just relax.
