Yes, the fingers swelling is due to water retention, if possible try to cut back on sodium intake in your diet before hand. I once managed to juice (fresh veggies) for one month, that was the only month that I didn't experience swelling in my fingers or breasts.
I can ramble about potential reasons for it. I swell because my body starts getting dehydrated. I don't retain water at all, and dehydration can cause severe swelling in the fingers, tongue, and feet.
Some people, on the other hand, do retain water. Which is, overall, not bad for you. Just uncomfy.
I just drink lots of water, keep my sodium intake at moderate levels, take a couple ibuprofen, and it usually goes down.
