Oct. 13th, 2005 12:43 pmSo I had my doctor's appointment this morning....
So I went in and described my symptoms and issues to Dr. Wellwood, and after listening to me (a totally new experience for me, I might add!), she asked if I had any objections to taking the pill. I, of course, said that I didn't, and so she gave me a prescription for a three-month supply of "Diane 35", which is a pill that not only helps with cycle/heavy bleeding issues, but also has a positive effect on acne and excess facial/body hair (which are other symptoms I've always dealt with).
She's also sending me for bloodwork to check my testosterone levels and my thyroid function. So I'll have to go have those done next week.
She also mentioned that my blood pressure was "slightly elevated" (although she didn't tell me exactly what the numbers were, and I didn't even think to ask). She wants me to check it periodically at the pharmacy downtown because she thinks the elevated reading might have been due to nervousness/stress over being in a doctor's office. (I have just about the worst case of "white-coat syndrome" ever).
I think I impressed her with the fact that I had read about/researched PCOS and endometriosis. She says, though, that she would rather not jump to any premature diagnoses, and since ultrasounds and other methods aren't always successful in detecting either PCOS or endo, she would rather not put me through those and then rule out the conditions when I could, in reality, have them. She says right now the important thing is to get my pain under control.
I'm happy with the way things turned out. Now all I have to do is get the prescription filled, get my bloodwork done, and get my damn blood pressure down! Oh well, I needed to start exercising more/eating better/drinking more water anyway. And I needed a good reason to quit caffeine -- this is as good a reason as any!
