Hi, I just joined, and have a question that I've been looking for the right place to ask. It's a little embarassing, but I'd figure that's not even in your vocabulary.

I've had my period since I was 10 and don't exactly remember when this started, but very soon after. Around days 3-7 I get this very weird burning feeling in my butt every time I urinate, which usually gets more and more painful as the days progress. Does anyone else get this? Know what I can do?

I noticed once when I was on a beach vacation and I used tampons that it didn't happen, but I really hate using tampons, so is there an alternative?

Are you primarily using pads?

You might consider switching to cloth pads (like the luna pad), or a menstrual cup, like the divacup or the keeper. At very least, consider switching from coventional cotton pads to perhaps organic cotton pads.

I used to have the same issue you describe. Turns out I am sensitive to the chemically treated cotton in conventional pads. After a few days of constant contact, the sinsitive skin on my vulva area would get inflamed and itchy, almost like it was having a minor allergic reaction.

The symptoms stopped when I started using organic, unbleached pads.

Yeah, sounds kind of familiar. plastic coated pads also don't breathe, at all. The excess moisture due to the pads also might be causing it, so if you can't switch to cotton pads, I'd try different brands (helped me) and change pads really often. Make sure you're using an unscented variety.
