Oh no! Perimenopause?!
Oct. 23rd, 2005 12:36 amJust for the heck of it I did some statistics today and the data supported what I had been thinking anyway: that my cycles are getting shorter. Here are the averages:
2000: I went off the pill in October. My cycles went right back to normal, i.e. noticable cervical mucus around ovulation, predictable bleeding.
2001: 30.25 days
2002: 27.61 days
2003: 27.3 days
2004: 27.15 days
2005: 26.18 days
The lower averages are not because I have a few very short cycles that bring down the numbers - everything is within normal limits. I am not worried that my cycles are too short or anything, it's just that they do seem to be changing.
4 days down in 4 years. I will be 38 in two months. Everything else is just spiffy, hormonally speaking (except that no, my skin still isn't perfect - thank you, dear dermatologists that promised me an acne-free adult life 26 years ago - yeah, right!, and then there's the hair -- hair *and* acne, now *there's* joy!) - could this speeding up of cycles mean that something is afoot???

Date: 2005-10-23 03:02 pm (UTC)Sooooo normal as we age and our egg supply decreases (apoptosis occurs in dramatically stepped-up fashion as well now), our ovaries send messages to the hypothalmus ordering it to speed the ovulation process to ensure as many opportunities to reproduce as possible.
Counter-productive, though, as I'm either bleeding or PMSing the vast majority of time.
Great birth control!!!!!
The skin thing (every woman I know my age is getting zits now!) may be helped by increasing the omega oils in your diet (oily fish, flax seed, pumpkin seeds, supplements) and decreasing the other saturated oils. I clay mask at least twice a month now and the blemishes are diminishing.
Blessed turning of the wheel, sister.
