Oct. 23rd, 2005 01:19 pmHi, I hope I can get some advice about this. I'm looking to start birth control ASAP as I have become sexually active. BUT, my period is very very irregular and comes maybe once every 2 months if that. I used to take Provera to induce it awhile ago. Although I have been using protection during sex (condoms), do you think it would be okay that I just start taking the Provera to induce a period to get on birth control? Does anyone have any related experiences or advice? Thanks!

Date: 2005-10-23 05:31 pm (UTC)you dont have to be on a period to start birth control - you'll just need to use backup for the first 7 days.
hormonal birth control is a bit trial-and-error so dont be afraid to change Pill/method, just be aware that it usually takes about 3 months for your body to become used to the levels of hormones.
please mention your menstrual irregularities to your doctor/nurse (you didnt say how old you are).
