Late, Dammit
Oct. 24th, 2005 11:15 amI'm late. Not a ton, but about 2 days, and a year ago that wouldn't have surprised me, but now I'm a little concerned. I normally start on Saturday and it's Monday with no signs of it starting (although I rarely PMS so I guess there are never signs anyhow). I'm trying really hard not to worry, because if I'm pregnant... well hey, worrying won't undo what I've done, right?
Anyway, my concern is that I messed up my pills this week... I usually take them around 5pm, but I forgot wednesday, took my wed pill on Thuresday morning and my thurs pill that evening as usual. Then I forgot my Friday pill which is the first placebo pill, and took 2 on Saturday. I used to be pretty bad about taking them on time, but lately I've been really good so I don't know if my body maybe got used to having it on time... I once was very irregular and now that I've been good about my pills they've been like clockwork. Enough complaining, though...
But I'm not asking if I'm pregnant... like I said before, maybe I am, maybe not... that's all to be seen. My question is if I go the next 4 days with no period and I'm NOT pregnant (lets suppose for a moment that I'm just having a weird period month) then would starting a new pack of pills on Friday encourage it to not come, or do you girls think that it if it were really planning on coming around eventually, would it defy the active pills and come anyway?

Date: 2005-10-24 03:24 pm (UTC)however, based on no sex, i'd say you're late because of the missed pills. personally, my period comes whenever it damn well feels like it, so it's possible that your period would come anyway.
if you _are_ sexually active, remember to follow your Pill instructions for missed pills (backup for 7 days, i think?).

Date: 2005-10-24 03:29 pm (UTC)I'm just saying ASSUMING for a second that I'm not pregnant, and my period just feels like being late for some reason, would starting a new pack of pills keep it from happening altogether?

Date: 2005-10-24 04:11 pm (UTC)My guess is it won't come if you start your pills again. You can skip your period by skipping the placebos and starting a new pack. I'm going to guess you're just late due to missing the pill and then taking it. Your system got confused, if you will, that close to starting. Plus, its not uncommon for your period to "change." (Mind has recently after almost two years ago being so clockwork I could pinpoint the hour, and yes, I am on the pill.) Just because there are no "symptoms" doesn't mean you won't start in the next day or so.
Since I get the feeling you aren't concerned about being pregnant, the best thing you can do is relax. getting concerned and worked up can also delay the start of your period. If you've got doubts regarding pregnancy, take a pregnancy test.

Date: 2005-10-24 04:57 pm (UTC)But yeah I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I am sexually active (very much so, I would say) so there's always a chance...
This would probably be a good time for someone to smack me in the forehead and say, "so start using condoms, nitwit!"

Date: 2005-10-24 11:13 pm (UTC)Yeah, if you restarted active pills, you almost certainly won't get your period.
It can take up to 3 days to get your period after you finish active pills, so if you took one late, then you probably wouldn't have gotten your period until even later, and since you only have 4 placebos, yeah, sounds like you just "skipped" it. Tests available OTC are accurate at 10-14 days after conception, I think, depending (http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/cvs/gateway/detail?prodid=140860#directions). You might find one even better than that (http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/cvs/gateway/detail?prodid=630020&previousURI=/CVSApp/cvs/gateway/search?ActiveCat=499^Query=pregnancy+test^Click+to+go+to+search+results..x=0^Click+to+go+to+search+results..y=0^Click+to+go+to+search+results.=submit). Only being late with one pill isn't usually enough to do anything though, especially this close to your period. You are probably unpregnant.

Date: 2005-10-25 04:33 pm (UTC)I figured it I was pregnant (not - yay!) it woulda been from pure 1% un-luck, not from missing the pill.
