I am on Loestrin and just finished my first month well actually i am now going to start my second month (thank god).

The one thing i loved about these pills was as soon as i went on them my mood improved. i have always been slightly depressed and antidepressants just made me feel horrible, but this birth control pill has made me much more of a cheerful person.

there is only one issue. when i went OFF the pills for my 7 days of placebo and my period, my mood CRASHED and i was so so so horribly depressed. I cried like every day and i just couldn't make my mood improve.

My question is this: has anyone else experienced depression when they were on their placebo pills? I know they say that some people can experience depression during the active pills but i haven't heard anything about this happening during the time you go off them for the 7 days.

Please give me some feedback!!!

Thanks

I actually had to stop taking ortho tri-cyclin because it made me so manic. thats the only way i can discribe it, so totally happy one minute, and suicidal the next... it was really bad. It always started just bout the time i took my "green pills" or didnt take them( i was really good about not taking them, i didnt feel the need), so i think that it has to do with the "withdrawl" of hormones that your body goes though.

hasn't happened to me... but it's most certainly possible. depression is linked to hormones (that's why some people get PMDD etc) sometimes, and b/c does change your hormones. You said antidepressents don't work for you... what kinds have you been on? if you've only tried those kinds that are in one "family" (eg the prozac family is prozac, paxil, etc), it's possible another kind might work well and you might want to see about getting a scrip for them to take during your period--it sounds almost like you've got pill-induced PMDD here (though that usually has more symptoms than just depression *shrug*).
anyhow--i'd say, talk to your doctor and, if you want to be real thorough, ask him/her (or a friend whose advice you trust, or something) to recommend a psychiatrist for you to see--they can analyze what's going on and possibly prescribe something if it's necessary. good luck anyhow!
