I don't know if anyone here will be able to answer my question, but this seemed like the best bet in terms of "non-medical places to ask." I'm trying to figure out if it is safe for me to go back on the Pill.

I got superficial thrombophlebitis due to a bad fall in January (nine months ago), and was told to go off of the pill because it put me at risk for blood clots combined with the phlebitis (vein inflammation). They recommended that I stay off of it for "at least" three months, assuming I had no family history of thrombophlebitis. I found out that my grandfather and my uncle on my dad's sad had also both gotten it, and although it was trauma-related in their case as well, it seemed like maybe a good idea just to stay off of the Pill, since I was only using it because I liked the regularity of it anyway.
Now though, I haven't had a period since June, and my family doctor doesn't think there is anything wrong with me other than an irregular cycle. So I'd kind of like to go back on the Pill, but I'm not sure it's safe. I still have five packs of pills (estrostep - triphasic) from when I was on them before, so in theory I could just start back on them.
I was also wondering, if I do decide to go back on the pill, do I need to wait until my period starts again to take them? Or can I just start and force my body back into a regular cycle?

The pill is known to cause blood clots in those susceptible to them - I would not go back on the pill without a doctor's close supervision.
