I'm really frustrated with my period right now. My cycle is 26-28 days long, but I bleed for like 8 days which is really annoying. I'm almost positive that my hymen is fully intact because any kind of penetration (fingers, tampons, penii through underwear...I'm a virgin) hurts a lot. Actually I barely ever use tampons and I don't think I've used one correctly, which is frustrating because I'm 19 and have been getting my period long enough for that not to be a problem, you know? Also depending on how the angle at which I'm sitting I can leak off a pad...so on really heavy days I sometimes wear two pads lengthwise. I'm stressed out and my period is kind of late (only a couple of days), but it's just making me nervous and probably making my period even later. Anyway I wanted to know what kinds of birth control pills you prefer for making flow a little lighter, or if you've tried Sesonale how'd that work out for you?

any bcp you take should lessen your flow some.

many bcps can be used like seasonale by taking 3 months of pills straight and then taking one "off" week. that's what seasonale is. 3 months worth of pills in one pack.

there's a lot to learn and a lot to be said about bcp's. there is a "birthcontrol" community where i learned a lot by reading through their faq's, posts, and links.

i've been on two pills... ortho tri-cyclen (a triphasic pill) and lo-ovral (a monophasic pill) both lessened my periods and made me VERY regular, down to a few hour window of when it will arrive. i like lo-ovral better, it only has one level of hormones the whole month, and is lower in dosage than the OTC i was on. i think that helped with a lot of my side effects. i also like it because it is easier for me to "skip" a period if i need to. i only get to see my fiance once a month so if my period happens to fall on the weekend i can see him it's nice to be able to skip my period that month.

now i'm not positive this is true but logic leads me to believe that if your hymen was intact then you could not release your menstrual blood. therefore you wouldn't be experiencing bleeding.

Not true--while some women have hymens that "cover" more than others, they always (so far as I know) have holes in them to allow menstrual blood to be released. If they didn't, those women (like me) who started menstruating before having our hymens broken would have serious health issues!

the original poster said she thought hers was "fully intact" and that means to me that there is no opening at all. which is why i brought up the fact that if something has no opening nothing should be able to escape.

"but I bleed for like 8 days which is really annoying."

I know how you feel. My period is usually 8 days long, too.

I've never used Seasonale, personally, but it's been my experience that any time I missed a period (or I should say it took a long-ass time to show up) when I was younger, it was like 3x as long & heavy because there's like 2 or 3 or 4 months worth of blood and tissue to get rid of rather than 1. I don't know if that would be the best idea for someone dealing with really long/heavy periods.

I know I'm not much older than you, but age will smooth out your periods. Also, if you get on a REGULAR monthly hormonal birth control (pills, ring or patch) rather than a quarterly one like the shot or seasonale, it will help lighten your period, but the last thing you want to do with a wacky period is train it to be wacky in a different way. Get it under control first with something a little more consistent, THEN think of trying seasonale if you're still interested.

If you've had a penis in your vagina, even through underware, then you have had sex. Penetration of the penis into the vagina is sex, no matter what is between the penis and vagina.
