Informational for sea sponge users
Dec. 9th, 2005 11:02 amYesterday I posted in
vaginapagina about some sea sponges for hermit crabs I found at the pet store for .80 cents. I was asking if they were the same as the Jade and Pearl sea sponges. I bought a few and brought them home and they did look exactly the same. Anyway...
I got over my embarrassment and called Jade and Pearl myself about their tampon sponges. I asked specifically if they were the same natural sponges used in hermit crab cages or available at pet stores and the answer I got from the woman at J & P was YES. I asked her if there was a huge difference between one I might find in the cosmetic department of a store or at a pet store locally for say .80 cents or 1.50 and she said NO, if you bring it home, sterilize it using the process on their site, tea or peroxide solution, etc, it should work the same and be just as comfortable. She said the fundamental difference is that they harvest sponges with larger holes because blood is thicker than water. So, look for one with larger holes and not the teeny tight little holes for better absorption but fundamentally, the pet store sponge and their sponges are the same thing.
So if you wanna try Sea Sponge tampons, Silk Sea Sponges at your local cosmetic department or pet store are pretty much the same thing as the Jade and Pearl Sea Pearl Sponges. If you're wanting to try them and the cost has been prohibitive (cost + shipping) then you can trot on down to your local pet or department store and pick up some Silk sea sponges. I am in no way saying you shouldn't buy from J & P if you want. I've just wanted to get some sponges for a while and the cost (16.00 for 4 and the 6.00 for shipping) kinda kept me from doing it. But 3.20 + tax I can totally do. :)
