I went off BCP several months ago because I thought my body needed a break after 10 years. I had completely forgotten what a "pill-free" period was like, and each month my period has been getting worse. This one takes the cake however as the worst one I have had in about 10 years. Debilitating cramps (stayed home from work even!), intensely heavy flow, pimples all over my face, and a cold sore on my lip.

I am thinking of going back on the pill just so I don't have to deal with this every month...

Just needed to vent.

Oh good. I just went off the pill about 3 weeks ago after 7 or so years. I'm so glad I have this to look forward too. Ack.

No, I definitely expected it already, luckily fo rme, if the pas tis any indication it also means a period only every 60 days or so, just a really bad one. Bleh. Reading this just made remember how bad it can get!

Your body definitely needs a break after 10 years of being on the Pill.

Have you tried any natural remedies to alleviate your discomfort?

There are teas, herbal supplements and dietary changes that can make your period easier.

I am not a doctor or naturopath, but I know that the following herbs have helped me with pain:

Herbal supplements:

Black Cohosh
Chamomile
Valerian root
Raspberry leaf
Dong Quai (this needs to be taken in small doses. take the smallest dose and then work up to more if your body can handle it. I took too much once and it was not fun.

This site has amazing teas that can be found at most health food stores:

Taking a multi-vitamin with folic acid helps.
A B-complex vitamin would be good, too.

Also, regular exercise and stretching is good.
I also find that a hot water bottle helps with cramps and back pain.
Also, those "self-heating" heating pads are AMAZING:

Here is a link for homeopathic remedies:

Some women have changed their period issues buy eliminating various things from their diets. Meat, dairy, caffeine, salt etc.

I hope this helps.

I'm sorry you're having to go through the pain again. I know how you feel. Cramps were the reason I was put on the pill in high school.

Sorry, I don't have anything to say about your question, I just wanted to say I love your icon. I used to watch queer as folk every week before it got cancelled.

My boss is dealing with that. She had cervical cancer several years ago so they put her on BCPs as hormone replacement therapy. She's 50 now and having serious troubles sleeping and she thinks that maybe the pills are the culprit.

She's afraid if she stops the BCPs her cramps will come back. You poor ladies!

Have you been checked for endometriosis or something like that? Also a low-dose pill might be a good option for you if the cramps get out of control. It's good to give your body a little break, but it's probably not worth the pain.
