omg period stress!

so i was gonna go on birth control (yasmin to be specific).
I was taking Provera for a few days, 10 i think, in order to enduce my period.
But since im super irregular, my doctor thought it was a good idea to run hormone tests with my blood. She found that i have an "abnormal thyriod" (what is actually wrong with my poor thyriod, i dont know). So NOW i have to wait til freakin FEBRUARY to take the pill and now i enduced a god damned period for no reason, lol.

anyways, my question is:
has anyone else had a thyroid issue?
and does that attribute to irregularity?

i forgot to ask her, lol.

Generally speaking thyroids are either underactive or overactive. An underactive thyroid could absolutely cause irregular/long cycles. Google "hypothyroidism" for more info. Hyper=overactive Hypo=underactive. If you're not having periods, it's much more likely that you have an underactive thyroid , if anything.

Good luck.

Me! I have an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). Come to think of it my periods were kinda irregular, but I usually chalked that up to being young and it not 'settling in'. I still got them though. Mostly I just gained weight really easily and was tired all the time. I was diagnosed when I was fourteen or fifteen, I think, and I'm 19 now.

Your doctor should be planning further tests to confirm what's up. If your thyroid indeed is underactive you'll have to take synthetic hormones every day to replace what it's not making. http://www.endocrineweb.com/hypo1.html is a good place to start; I used it for a project I did on hypothyroidism in high school. If you have any other questions you can find my e-mail in my userinfo. :-)
