I really need help because I feel as though I'm about to snap.

I've been on the pill since september/october because I hadn't had a period for months, and my doctor thought that going down the pill route was the best option for me. Anyway my problem is that I'm getting chronic pms. It starts about 9-10 days before my period and it's ruining my life. I get so angry that I've blown up at people, I have no energy and I cry at anything. It's got to the point were I can't even get out of bed anymore. Once I start bleeding I'm fine, it's just those couple of weeks before hand were it feels as though the world is ending!

I know that pms is really common, but this is starting to affect my family life and friendships. Most of the time I'm really laid back, so the change is dramatic and I'm quite worried about it.

I thought that going on the pill was meant to reduce the symptoms of pms? I never really used to get it, so I'm quite shocked that I am now. I'm 22 by the way.

I could just do with some advice, vitamins I could take and so on. Just any advice that you have. My mum has tried to help, but obviously it's difficult to have a conversation with me at the moment. I'm just so tired of feeling this way.

Thanks for any help that you can give me. :)

a. could you please make your font a bit larger? your post is hard to read :(

b. B vitamins/evening primrose oil might help - but the best thing (imo) you can do is return to your doctor, explain all this and possibly change Pills. it took me 3-4 brands before i found the Pill that suited me - bear in mind this is a trial-and-error process, but dont give up; just because one Pill didnt work, doesnt mean all of them wont.

good luck!

Just a disclaimer --- Im anti-pill ;) I have been on it for probably 2-3 months when I first got married and experienced symptoms much like you. I rarely find someone on the pill that has no ill side-effects. I would get off of the pill and then address your cycle with herbs.

Dr. Christopher has some wonderful herbals for women (http://www.herballegacy.com/id125.htm) that should help you become more regular. My midwife recomended me to take Don Quoi once to regulate my period and I had good success with it.

Even if you do stay on the pill - I would look at regulating your hormones (which is causing your mood swings/etc) &/or look into taking some Bvitamins/etc to help you manage your stress. HTH'ed! If you need more advice on herbs let me know - I have done some schooling in the area. Good luck!

err...the Pill _will_ regulate the OP's hormones :p

also, while herbs are 'natural', the industry isnt as strictly regulated and monitored as the pharmaceutical one (iirc). the herbs might have as many side effects...at least the Pill's are well documented and tested.

if you were only on the Pill for 2-3 months, i'm not surprised you had side effects: it takes a woman's body about 3 months to adjust to the hormone levels...also, it's likely that the Pill you were on wasnt the best match for you. i'm not trying to change your mind, i'm simply suggesting reasons.

I had problems after several months on the patch, but I've been on Kariva (the generic for Mircette) for about a year now and I haven't really noticed any problems that I can relate back to the hormones. Kinda sad, though... any crappy mood or sick feeling I have is completely my own fault - I have nothing to blame it on now!

You are probably just reacting badly to this particular pill. If you're uncomfortable with hormones in general or with trying another pill, you could probably stop taking it (check with your doctor first). I would recommend that you try another pill. I had to try three before I found one that made my periods lighter - the first two made them heavier.

i was on the pill for 8 years and i didn't notice it as much when i was in school and had a wacky schedule, but once i started working and got into a normal routine, i noticed that for about 2 weeks before my period (from what would be ovulation time until bleeding), i would CRY at everything...and i couldn't stop...i mean i'd go in the bathroom and just cry for 20 minutes over something really REALLY stupid.

i finally had to get off the pill cause i couldn't handle it. i just got an IUD to forgo the mass hormones in the bloodstream thing, but you might want to call your doc and explain your symptoms and see if you can try a different pill. you may just be reacting badly to this particular brand.

good luck! i totally sympathise and i hope you can find something that works. /hugs

After about 8 months on the patch I was getting so moody (rather than painful PMsing and whatnot) that my boyfriend of 15 months decided we should call it quits. I'd just try some other pill or whatever. Some of them do one thing and some do the complete opposite and the real shitter is that if one makes you totally moody it might not affect my mood at all but it'll make my cramps worse or make my skin break out. You can't even really judge them based on how they affect others. How lame is that?

But you can always try St. John's Wort, which is supposed to help with perpetually sour moods. I'm sure if you wandered into a local vitamin or health food store and share your story with the clerk they could point you towards some of your options. A lot of them even have "herbal encyclopedias" where you look up your problem and it'll list a bunch of things to try.

no! dont try St John's Wort without talking to your GP - SJW can interfere with certain BC brands.

Ehh ick. I used to have this awesome website URL where you'd enter every drug you were taking & and vitamins you wanted to take and it'd bring up every drug interaction... it was wonderful. Lost it when my boss reformatted, though.

That's why it's always helpful to ask when you're buying stuff. Clerks at those places usually have the inside scoop or access to someone or something who knows better.
