Hi ladies.
I was at my doctor today and have decided to switch from Alese pills to the Patch.
Just want to hear some expierences from anyone about their expierence with the Patch.
I am sick I having to take a pill everyday, that is why i wanted to switch, in case anyone was wondering. I also only have a 3 month trial right now, just to see if it works for me.
Thanks for your input.

i've found the patch to be very good for me in a lot of ways
i like that i am usually in a stable emotional state when on it (seems to be a good mix of hormones for me i guess)
i am hornier, wetter
i bleed for less days
i have NOOOO cramps whatsoever
i like that i only have to remember once a week

i did find the nasty mess around the patch to be quite annoying (from fabric + glue)
i have sensitive skin, so i gotta be careful where i put it or i will sufffer a horrible rash.

It was terrible for me.

My moods were completely out of control.
My cramps were worse.
Due to the patch being the same dose all month (vs. low-med-hi with the pill) I was sick the entire first week and had prolonged bleeding the third week through the off week (so my period ended up being 10 days vs 4).

The Patch is the best thing to ever happen to me. My periods are shortened (2-3 days as opposed to 4-5 without any birth control), and IF I have cramps, I have maybe an hour or two right when my period first arrives (I used to have nearly dehabilitating cramps for 24-36 hours without).

Do be careful though and make sure you get a workup done by your doctor regarding your blood pressure, heart rate, family history, et cetera now that the FDA has released a warning about the Patch possibly increasing risk of stroke or heart attack (at least I think that's what I remember reading it was, pardon if I'm a little off) because you're receiving a greater percentage of medication as opposed to other birth control options. A friend of my opted to go off the patch when she heard, but since I have nearly zero risk factors and in excellent health, I decided it would be alright to stay on.

So, in essence - no complaints, go for it, and good luck!

It has an increased risk of blood clots. Maybe that's what you were thinking of?

You're right. I believe that can lead to what I mentioned, is where I was coming from.

Yes. If a blood clot travels to the heart, it can cause a heart attack. If it travels to the brain, it can cause a stroke.

I'm pretty happy with the pill honestly. I think I'd have a harder time remembering a patch than I would the pill.

Good luck, whatever you do.

Good luck with it. I definitely liked it when things were good. My first month (or maybe 6 weeks) on the patch was a little spotty - just enough to warrant using a panty liner or at least a few layers of TP, but nothing too ick. The next 6 months went off without a hitch, and then my last month-and-some-odd-weeks I was really moody so I decided to move onto something different.

I also know that some people experience weight gain (boo), fullness of breasts (yay!), nausea on patch change days or more (boo), no decrease in sex drive (yay!), breakthrough bleeding or spotting (boo), and you can keep taking it while you're on antibiotics without it screwing with your protection (yay!!!).

It was good for me, I even lost thirty punds on it -- haha. I also have uber-bad cramps, but when I was on the patch, it wasn't too bad. The only reasn I stopped taking it was because of all the new info. that came out about it.

There is definitely a strong risk of blood clots associated with the patch. There was recently a news story on either WTOP or CNN regarding deaths associated with the patch & blood clots, strokes, etc.
You may want to look into that, just to be sure.

Good luck with all of this. :)
