Dec. 27th, 2005 11:09 pmI've been having amazingly bad cramps..and sex doesn't seem to help them. I've heard having sex regurlarly or masturbation will help cramps and staying away from high caffine drinks also helps.
I have done these, and it doesn't seem to work.
What should I do? Is there anything I can take, or do?
And, before my period I get clunky, white discharge. And, then I get watery like too. it's really odd. Is this normal?

Date: 2005-12-28 04:49 am (UTC)I really have no idea if the ab exercises actually work (I don't usually get cramps), but it couldn't hurt to try.
I know that the hot water bottle will help, though, because I've had other muscle pain that I've used a hot water bottle for.

Date: 2005-12-28 05:13 am (UTC)I tried thermacare patches or whatever, and so far, they have been quite nice. they last for a good long while, so keep that in mind when you see their horrendous price!

Date: 2005-12-28 06:23 am (UTC)From personal experience, extra exercise the week before my period seems to weaken menstrual cramps. Excessive vegging out or studying, or any lack of movement makes them worse.
Also, there are a few studies suggesting that a low-protein diet for the 2 days leading up to your period and until day 3 will reduced the intensity of all PMS symptoms.
The same goes for vitamin E.
You can look up both these studies. The vitamin E study was first done in Iran, the low-protein diet study has been done to death (but shows more promise with mental lability symptoms rather than with the pain).

I am on a strict diet so would this also go torwards worse cramps or no?

Date: 2005-12-28 06:51 am (UTC)If it's a high protein, atkins-type diet, yes. When you're on a high protein diet, your glycogen stores generally become depleated so that your body burns fat faster and as a side-effect, muscle contractions become much more painful.. that's probably why the high-carb diet helps so much with PMS.

Date: 2005-12-28 11:33 am (UTC)birth control should help (it did with me!) although it might take some trial-and-error before you find the best brand for you.
otherwise, it's painkillers and sniffling for me all the way! (heating pad/hot water bottle will help).
the discharge is, i think, normal.

Date: 2006-01-05 12:52 pm (UTC)Iron pills also helped me, my mum says that cramps are can be caused by lack of vitamins and minerals. Maybe take women's multivitamins?
And the discharge sounds normal to me :)
