Hey. I'm pretty new.. first time poster. I feel kind of nervous posting here, but I'd really like input. Pardon me for all the TMI. Okay.

I'm 19. I'm not on BC. My period has been pretty regular more or less ever since I've started menstruating several years ago with a couple of exceptions sprinkled in. The last period I had, however, it started when it was supposed to, but it was so so different from any period I've had before. It was really light. It still lasted about five days like usual, but most of the stuff coming out was like.. light brown in color. I'm usually incredibly heavy the first or second day, going through pads and tampons in rapid succession, ha. But this time there was none of that. I didn't even really need to change my pad. I did bleed a little into the toilet on the second day, but ugh, it just.. wasn't enough! There weren't any clots (is that what you would call the stuff?) coming out or anything.

So my question is, why would I be having such a light period? Should I be worried?

More information.. I took some chewable aspirin right when I noticed my period appearing to start in order to deal with cramps. I know aspirin is a blood thinner so I would think that it would seem like I had more blood coming out, right? But there was less.

Also, I am sexually active. But I don't even remember the last time I've had PIV sex. More than a month ago, I think? We used condoms.. it didn't break, I don't think. I dunno, I don't believe that I'm pregnant since my period did come but I am a little worried.

What could be wrong with my period?

Well, we've just survived a very large holiday season, which brings added stress. You're older now, your body is changing and going through all kinds of "wonderful" new experiences. I had an extremely light cycle myself about two cycles ago, and I had been under a lot of travel stress, but was very happy emotionally. Sometimes the exterior things we go through take a much larger toll on our bodies than our minds, and your body could just be reacting. At this point, I think that what you're going through is perfectly normal and reasonable. However, if you experience the same thing next cycle, I recommend seeing your doctor.

Also-try and think back to the past few months. Has there been a fluctuation in the amount of exercise you take? Change in the food you have been eating? New car? New job? New route to work? All of these things are contributors.

Feel better.

Well, with perfect use, a condom is somewhere around 99% effective, and about 80% with typical use. You don't sound at risk to be pregnant, though it always is a possibility when engaging in sex. You can take a pregnancy test with your first pee of the day, but I'd bet that it would come out negative.

I think you've pinned it on the head with your exams. I hope you do well.
