I am soooo annoyed. This weekend I had fal break and I went to Georgia with one of my classes.... Well, it is a 20 hour drive from where I live and I happened to get my period in the car on our way down. I was totally not prepared and not expecting this till a week from now, and I didn't know how to explain to the rest of my clasmates that I needed to stop by a supermarket. I was sooo embarrased I just didn;t say anything and stayed in the car all day while everyone was out collecting stuff and working on our project. I was so frustrated. Anyway, do you guys think this is normal? I have heard that your period can get delayed if you are stressed, but I've never heard it can come before :(

my period has been totally unpredictable lately, sometimes really early sometimes really late. still, i'd say talk to a doctor if it stays irregular.

i'd really like to ask why you were so embarrassed to ask to stop by a supermarket. of course, i know that it's because of the continuing societal stigma about menstruation. but, c'mon, all women have periods. why should you be so ashamed?

I usually am not very ashamed, but considering the circumstances.... I was in a van full of my coleagues and peers (professor included) on our way to a field trip. These are not people I know in a personal matter but more in a professional way, plus, what was I going to say: "Hey, Irresponsible me forgot her pads and tampons and painkillers and now my skirt is full of blood, can you stop your research to take me to a supermarket"
I don't think people would look at me the same after something like that....

being male, this has obviously never happened to me personally. however, i've been on enough road trips and excursions and whanot where people have been in your situation, and i've never known anyone to react badly to a request to stop and take care of things.

you got your period when you weren't expecting it. it happens, and the rest of the world knows that, and we all understand that you need to deal with it. you don't have to be self-conscious...

I am sure people will not react badlly, but its not the same being on road trips with friends or people you know than being in a trip with colleagues and coworkers... you know, its the feeling like it was my fault, and not an accident, and that they are going to think I am irresponsible for not being prepared.... I know it might not be true, but its what goes on in gilrs minds (at least the ones I know) when an accident like this happens. I am not afraid of saying, yes, i got my period, but I am hella scared of saying, I am completely stained and I have no pads with me cause I unexpectedly got my period. Its like going to a restaurant and forgetting your wallet, people just think you are not responsible enough....

it's normal that stress can skew things... my mother said that each time we moved (we're military) hers would come anywhere from a week or two early to a week or two late.. even when she was on b/c... go figure.

my mommy also told me the same when I told her my little incident... it made me feel soooo much better :)
