Dear Friends:

May I first say that I am so happy to find a place where women can openly share their thoughts and questions about sexual health. We are eliminating the taboos one post at a time.

My question was not found in memories so if you have seen one let me know and I will cut this one.

I am having some discharge issues and I was wondering if anyone has heard or knows anything about this. I am 23, and was not having sex until recently. Well, by all standards I was having "sex" if you believe oral sex is the same, but not intercourse until recently. Anyways, for the last 2 years ago I was having yeast infections every few months, off and on and off and on. Then about 6 months ago I began having these odd discharges. I would have a very creamy thick discharge that lasted about 1 or 2 days. It was the consistency of conditioner or even thicker. No lumps, discoloration, or odd odors. I thought it was beginning signs of yet another yeast infection but before I had the chance to grab some Monistat it was gone.

I follow good hygiene, wipe front to back, clean loose fit undies, unscented laundry detergent, one sexual partner, no anti-biotics or immunity supressing illnesses. All of those things that can lead to yeast infections yet I keep getting these odd dishcharges. I also had a lack of libido for about 4 years which no one could give answers and again no warning signs that would lead to that (history of sexual abuse, etc.) I am at a loss for what could be going on.

I have another 2 months at my job before I can recieve health insurance again and so anything that anyone knows about this would be great so I don't have to sit and wonder for another 2 months.

Thank you for any shred of information you could give!

I get that, especially around my ovulation. It's strange that it's just started out of the blue, but since it doesn't have any strange colors or odors, I think it's nothing to be worried about :)

If you are not on the Pill, then I can almost with 100% certainty say that that discharge is cervical fluid, and absolutely normal and a sign that you are healthy. You may not know this, but as you approach ovulation your body makes different types of mucous to either plug up the cervix when you are infertile or to allow sperm to enter (feeding them along the way) to help achieve pregnancy. The 1-2 days of this that you're talking about is probably the most obvious "egg white" mucous that is very slippery, can make you feel physically wet when you are not aroused, etc. If you closely paid attention to what was going on for the whole cycle you would (almost definitely) notice even more subtle changes for the days leading up to that egg white, ovulation mucous as your body prepares for ovulation. The increase in estrogen makes the discharge thinner and often more noticeable (as opposed to the almost glue stick type progesterone mucous), and after ovulation it will quickly change back and often become very dry feeling again. These changes can occur somewhat on the Pill, but not to the same degree and not with absolute certainty. If you're interested in this kind of stuff, you may want to read "Taking Charge of Your Fertility." Your body has so many signs as to what your fertility status is at any given point, and it can give a much better explanation for all this stuff than I can.

Hehe. Thanks! I'm just letting you know what we're learning in my Christian Sexuality class. We Catholics love our cervical mucous! Lets us know exactly how fertile we are! The knowledge is all out there and it used to be used by women for thousands of years, but with a more puritanical view of things first where feminine discharge is bad and dirty and then with the advent of the Pill first out of malice and then out of ignorance people just didn't know what was going on with their own bodies. But there is a ton of research on this stuff that goes on. Some methods of fertility awareness to avoid pregnancy are upwards of 99.67% effective. For me it's about reclaiming a feminine culture so that we know our bodies and work with that knowledge instead of altering the normal way that we work by chemicals. It seems far more respectful to womanhood to me, but that is entirely my personal opinion.
:-)

i'm on the pill (ortho tricyclen lo to be exact) and the things you described are similar to what i go through (pretty much the same). so if you're on birth control, it's probably normal.
