Hi everyone. Kind of a two-parter here. Sorry, it's gonna be long.

For the last year, I've been having issues with exploding ovarian cysts. After one too many nights curled up in my bed in so much pain I wanted to die, I went to see an Ob-gyn. She didn't seem particularly worried about the problem, and prescribed Aviane (Alesse) for me to begin with my next cycle. I'd been on the same pill about a year ago when this problem began, but it was only a two-month deal.

Fast forward a week. I have yet another cyst explode. This time, the pain lasts non-stop for three days. I go back to the ob-gyn, and see the doctor-on-call. She immediately ordered an ultrasound, and found that I had a huge cyst rupture, spilling all kinds of nasty crap inside of me. She said it would probably take a week or so to all sort itself out, and that my next period would probably be a little late. She also noted a fair number of other cysts -- three on my left ovary, and two on my right -- but she said they weren't huge, so they weren't anything to worry about.

My next period, however, came a week early. I started the hormones on the 5th day, like the original doctor said. For a while, I had none of the side effects, for which I was extremely grateful. Then all hell broke loose. I've now been bleeding for 14 days, and my period hasn't even started yet (I only started taking the placebo pills last night). So, as for my questions...

1. I know breakthrough bleeding is a common side effect of hormones. But is bleeding non-stop for two weeks BEFORE my period a good thing? I can't imagine it is -- I feel absolutely exhausted all the time, probably because my body wasn't quite prepared to bleed this much for this long. Never mind the dryness from using tampons and the chaffing skin from wearing pads.

2. Should I be more concerned about the five other cysts on my ovaries? The second doctor said that they were nothing to be worried about, but I am worried about it. Should I get a second (third) opinion? I know that a cyst every now and again is nothing major, but I've had two rupture (that I know of) in the last month, one after I began the pills. Are there any other options for removing or (preferrably) preventing them?

You may change your mind later on in life to have children, like you said you are young.

If your doctor told you to expect your period to be late, and it's early with non stop bleeding, I'd say that's a problem. I personally don't know much on the issue, but here is a site that may help:

If at any time you don't feel comfortable or like you can't feel safe trusting the word of a single doctor, I think it's a good idea to get another opinion. Your health is important, sometimes it takes many doctors to find and fix the problem.
