Yesterday I went to the gynecologist for the first time in close to 2 years. Since coming home from there, my panties have stayed wet and I've been crampy. When I went ot the bathroom earlier, there was blood. I've been on birth control for ages and I've never had any sort of spotting when I'm not on my period. I'm wondering if maybe it's actual blood and my cervix was just a little sensitive after the pap/STD test. Then again, I'm also paranoid that maybe it's a UTI, since this is how it started for me when I had one before-- mysterious bleeding and cramping. Of course I need to wait and see if there's blood in my urine, but I don't really know how I could get one now. I'm on hardcore antibiotics for a sinus infection . . . plus I had to pee in a cup for my exam yesterday, and I'm pretty sure that *something* would've shown up then if that's what was going on. I also make sure I always urinate before and after sex because I know how painful and irritating a UTI can be (of course I know that that doesn't mean I can't still get one). So, has anybody else ever had this problem? Is it just the pap/std tests that made me have a little bit of blood? Argh, why must women's bodies be so complicated? Any way, thanks for an insight you can provide. :o)

The same thing happened to me after my first pap. I actually bleed for a few days! Of course I found the procedure fairly painful as it was my first one and a male doctor whom I had *just* met was performing it. I wouldn't worry too much about it...but that's just my opinion since it happened to me and I was fine in a few days...I think it was just from the test. Hope this helps a bit!

It was exactly the same for me.
I also bled for a couple of days after I had it done.

a little spotting after a PAP is perfectly normal. a bit of discharge might be expected too since your vagina isn't used to having someone poke and prod and stick things in it like that. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Just another note to same that some spotting and cramping happens after paps for many folks. I teach the pelvic exam to medical students and on of the bits we drill into their heads is to tell women that they might experiences some spotting. The cervix is a bit cranky sometimes after the pap. But lots of medicos are so good at telling women this bit of useful information.

If it lasts for more than a few days or the spotting becomes heavy flow, then you want to go back in and see what's up.

Yeah, I usually have a bloody q-tip from my pap test, and I don't think the speculum really helps when it comes to cramps. Sounds totally normal.

Bleeding is totally normal after a pap test. They scrape at your cervix with a little plastic brush to literally scrape some of it off, so they can look at the cells under a microscope. Of course your poor cervix is going to bleed after that.
The 'wetness' you feel is probably the lube they put on the speculum. I've had that happen to me, too.

If you're on antibiotics right now, it's pretty unlikely that you could have a UTI, unless the bacteria are immune to that specific antibiotic.

Yes, something would have shown up. On a routine urinalysis, they do a test for UTI's.

It sounds like everything is just normal after pap test stuff. Some women only feel a little bit of pressure when they do the pap test, and some women feel cramps. Some women feel cramps after the test.
