Spotting?

Hey ladies.

I started birth control pills (Yasmin) about seven weeks ago. I skipped my period after the first three weeks by not taking the placebos and had no spotting or other issues. I took the next three weeks' worth of pills and wanted to skip again for a special occasion, so I started on the new pack. So right now, I'm about a week into the third pack.

Last night, I started getting this gross discharge. I thought, oh it's just spotting, I've read about it, it's cool. But it's still been happening consistently all day today. It's very dark brown and about the consistency of a normal period. To be honest, I'm not quite sure what's going on. During my last pack of pills, I wasn't that great with taking them at the right time. I was off by a couple hours or so a few times, and once I took one a full day late. I didn't get ovulation cramps, but is it possible that I did ovulate? I'm not really worried about that part since I'm not sexually active right now, I'm more just curious.

Anyway. I HATE the feeling of pantyliners, but I don't want to stick a tampon up there if the discharge is about to stop.

Any advice?

if you've been taking the yasmin, you didn't ovulate. you're having breakthrough bleeding. this can happen if you try to skip periods by not doing the placebo week.

Okay, thanks. I just thought that maybe with taking the one a day late, it might've happened. Especially since the information packet is like OMG TAKE THEM AT THE SAME TIME EVERY DAY!!!

Do you know how long it might last?

until it decides to stop or you have a full period (on your placebo pills), whichever comes first. :)

I agree with the above comment.

If your pantyliner isnt already cloth, buy a half-yard of unbleached muslin cloth (about a dollar a yard in most places). When my period is brown and barely-there, I use just a strip of muslin isntead of dirtying my cloth pads or feeling uncomfortable with a disposeable or overdrying with a tampon.
