The period is the shedding of the uterine lining and is the body's response to being not pregnant. Some women who typically have very light periods anyway might confuse implantation bleeding or spotting for a period, but it isn't actually a period. Any pregnancy bleeding that is more than simply spotting is a sign that something's wrong and should be immediately addressed by a medical professional.
