Hey Everyone,

Just curious to see if anyone has any great resources or advice as to menstruating while pregnant? Just curious of the possibility, at which point during a pregnancy it happend most frequently, etc. Thanks a lot.

Here's an article that talks about implantation bleeding and early in pregnancy bleeding from Dr Spock's site: http://www.drspock.com/article/0,1510,6004,00.html

a similar article from TeenFX, a site that's a project of a group of NJ hospitals: http://www.teenhealthfx.com/answers/Sexuality/3918.html

similar info from the University of Illinois at Chicago'a Wellness Center:

There are a ton of other resources out there, too, but the short version is that they all say the same thing. Except in the unusual circumstances mentioned in the link from [livejournal.com profile] sagesseabiona in the above comment, no, it is not possible to have an actual period during pregnancy. (As you'll see when you read that link, any woman in that situation would only have one period anyway and honestly, she might never realize it. She'd just assume she got pregnant after that period.)

The period is the shedding of the uterine lining and is the body's response to being not pregnant. Some women who typically have very light periods anyway might confuse implantation bleeding or spotting for a period, but it isn't actually a period. Any pregnancy bleeding that is more than simply spotting is a sign that something's wrong and should be immediately addressed by a medical professional.
