Could these 2 things be directly related to digestive problems?? My neighbour (I've already posted in here about her before, about calcium) is having problems, and asked me to post a question about this stuph, so we can find out while she's waiting to be seen by a doctor. If anyone can help, we'd really appreciate it!! She's been getting really constipated or something, she's always complaining of cramps, and is very concerned that it might have something to do with the calcium and potassium supplements she's taking. Is it?? Any and all information disclosed to us will be much appreciated!! Thank you!!

Too little or too much calcium can do wierd things to your muscles (too little- spasms, too much-sluggish reponse). And, we all know that potassium (like, bananas) is known as a remedy for loose bowels. So...it's not impossible that a combination of the two could cause some constipation. Of course, she should check with her doctor... but I can definately see an abstract correlation. What to do about it is a different story. It depends on why she's taking those two supplements in the first place.

i believe calcium, in some forms, can constipate as well, and also make your tummy generally unhappy, esp. if taken w/o much water or food. She might try looking at fiber laxatives or a very high-fiber cereal, in moderation, to see if that evens things out a bit..... (i have IBS and i know that for some people calcium can make things a little stranger with that, but making sure to take my fiber makes everything much easier)
