So lately I have had a decreased sex drive. I've been on birth control for about 6 months now. Some of my friends have said that after a certain time of being on birth control their libido has decreased. I was wondering if this is common? and what I can do to fix it?

It's my understanding that it used to be really common to lose your libido while birth control pills, but the modern versions have lower hormones, so it's not supposed to happen as much.

I would talk to your doctor and see if she can put you on a different pill.

Honestly, that's one of the reasons I don't take the pill anymore.

it may be a side effect of the bith control, i'd agree with [livejournal.com profile] kateherself: talk to your doctor and possibly change brands. sometimes hormonal birth control take some 'tweaking' before you find a good match.

Yep. I went on Seasonale for a few months, and I didn't even really notice I didn't have much of a sex drive... I didn't have a steady partner, and I don't keep track of how much I masturbate or anything, so I guess I just didn't notice. But now that I've been off the pill for a week or two, my sex drive is CRAZY. My doc said it can be a little out of control when you first go off, but that it should even back up (just some warning in case you do stop taking yours!)

So yes, it's very possible it's because of your BC. Just talk to your doc about it and he/she should be able to offer some advice about switching brands or using a different method. I personally am about to try the NuvaRing... it's my fourth try at BC - the last three have given me problems, so hopefully this one will be better.

It's quite common. One way to fix it is to try another pill. Another way is to increase your activity level outside of the bedroom (get some exercise). Most women try a different pill, though.

That happened to me after 6 months on tricyclen. My sex drive and general passion for life just plummeted. I switched to the single-hormone drugs (progestin-only?) and it helped a lot. But after five years of that I went off pills completely, and that helped even more. ;) Good luck figuring out what works for you!
