Hi all. I'm writing this because i'd like the hear the experiences of anyone who's had the same things happen.

Bit of background knowledge:
I started my periods aged 12, over four years after 'everything else' came. I'm still convinced this is important ;) My periods have always been irregular, and an ovarian cyst was found, coincidentally, from an MRI scan of my hips. This was about 3 years ago. I had ultrasounds and appointments with the gynaecologist and was put on Yasmin to get rid of the cyst. Two months ago i had a laparotomy to remove the cyst. Now it's gone and my ovaries are spanking clean, i'd really like to come off the pill. I've read online that coming off is likely to result in more cysts- and i am nothaving a big operation again. But on my follow up appointment, my consultant wasn't available and i saw his registrar. Who was less than helpful. There were a lot of things that bothered me about that appointment (my boyfriend wants to complain), but one of the things that has left me confused is that she said it's fine to come off the pill. She didn't say i could end up with more cysts. She just says see my doctor "they know lots about birth control". Which left me a bit stunned. I figured a gynaecologist would know more. My real consultant knew anyway, i wish i could have seen him.

Anyway, i want to ask if anyone else had (open) surgery for cysts more than once, or if they were given more information on pills. I really don't want to stay on it, but if coming off means another operation and another two months off work then i'll take the risk. Thanks.

Depends what kind of pill you are on. If you are on the progesterone-only kind: stop taking it: it causes cysts. The normal estrogen/progesterone one is often used to prevent them . . . but in my very personal opinion, the medical community knows very little about hormones and exactly what they do.

(For example natural progesterone has the exact opposite effect of synthesized progesterone in terms of anxiety/panic attacks. And they are *just* figuring things like this out.)
