ok, so my period started today right on time. However, I noticed that the blood is very I don't know..."mucusy" (i do not believe that's a word, but w/e).

Anywho, I've never really noticed it like that before. I'm actually pretty sure its never been like that. Other variables: I'm on Ortho Evra, I'm extremely stressed(I have a 2 year old and i'm a full time college student +work) and I had to do a new start date w/my BC because the people at Walgreens wouldn't fill my prescription.

Is there something unusual about mucusy blood? I don't want to visit my GYN unless its serious b/c i don't have insurance right now.  thanks for any help

I think it's normal. Sometimes mine is mucusy. Just keep in mind the uterus is shedding its lining which isn't just blood, but tissue as well. When you get your prescription filled, you could ask the pharmacist maybe?

Probably nothing to worry about though.

Sounds perfectly normal to me! As [livejournal.com profile] stripling said, it's not just blood that comes out anyway, but tissue from the uterus lining which can definitely get mucusy (which is a wonderful word btw, real or not!). Since I've had my mooncup I've noticed much more mucusy tissue then I ever did with tampons, but that's probably just because I threw the tampons away as quickly as possible, whereas the blood in my cup is kinda fascinating... Basically though I don't think it's anything to worry about; unless you find yourself having a considerably longer or heavier period than normal, you're most likely fine. :)

Plus pills make you produce more mucus at the opening of your cervix. So maybe the switch in the start time did have an effect in that way.

Mine was occasionally mucuy from time to time.

Rest Assured ..
