Hi, new memeber and all, I hope this question is ok!

Basically, next week I have the chance to spend some time alone with my SO, only problem is, my period is due that week! I am on the 21 day birth control pill, and am planning to move straight onto my next pack so that i skip my period.

Does this reduce the effectivity of the pill?
And will I get any breakthrough bleeding? (I get very light periods usually)
And will it mean I have any other symptoms?

Thanks for your help!!

Thats supposed to worrk, occasionally you could have your normal cramps, bleeding, or if your body gets reaaaaaaaally pissed at you, your period could just stick around for three months. But then again I have horrible periods and endo too probably so my situatin is likely much different than yours.

It's a really individual thing so you may well get breakthrough bleeding, though I have done this (many many years ago) with success (reason: school camp with a period = sucky!) .. OR you could just have dirty sex :D

It depends on the type of pill you are on, if there are 3 levels of hormones then it will be a lot harder to skip your period, and you will probably have breakthrough bleeding (more likely than not). Other than that, your fine. You will still be protected.

No, it won't reduce the effectiveness of the pill at all. That is, if it's monophasic (the same level of hormones through the entire month). If it's a triphasic pill (higher levels in the second week and higher again in the third week), then the proper way to skip your period with them is to take the first week of one pack, then the first week of the second pack. Then the second week of the first pack, and the second week of the second pack, etc.
Whether or not you have breakthrough bleeding totally depends on your body. Some women do have it, and other women don't have it. You won't know until you try.
Or you could go another way and try Instead menstrual cups. You can have sex with them in, and it won't be messy.
