I'm on the nuvaring. I was told by my Dr. at Planned Parenthood that it would actually remain effective for FOUR weeks, not three, so I decided to try to skip my period this month by leaving the ring in an extra week. My reasoning was this: (a) I will be putting a new ring in next week, at my normal insertion time, so I'll still be adding a new transfusion of hormones every 28 days and be protected, and (b) If I do get breakthrough bleeding, it'll be during my normal period time anyway, so I have nothing to lose.

Well, I usually take out my ring on Saturday morning, and start my period sometime on Tuesday. But... I started spotting very heavily last night. WTF, body? When I take away your hormones, you don't bleed for four days, but when I leave them in, you start bleeding within one? This makes absolutely NO sense to me :P

Anyway, I took my ring out this morning, and will be putting a new one in on Saturday like usual... I just wanted to complain about the fact that, for no reasonable reason, I've started my period early while I'm at my boyfriend's without a pad or divacup in sight.

maybe it's your body's way of yelling at you for trying to screw with it, lol.
Anyways, that quote made me laugh, so i wanted to italicize it.
