Nov. 9th, 2006 01:24 pmHi, I just inserted (and then immediately removed) my Diva cup for the first time and I found myself so scared that I wouldn't be able to get it out later that I pulled it out right away. Can anyone offer me some words of encouragement so I don't freak out again? I think I followed directions well, and even while panicking I didnt have too much trouble removing it. Also, how far up should the stem be? Mine was dead even with my vaginal opening, but I still panicked. I really want to be able to safely use a menstrual cup without worrying. Thanks

Date: 2006-11-09 06:33 pm (UTC)I'd think that being able to insert and remove despite panic is a good indication that you'll be just fine! :D Also, the cup cannot get "lost" in your vagina, your cervix is in the way. The way I remove my Diva is to sit on the toilet and bear down till I can grip the bottom (just above the stem). I then pinch while twisting/pulling to break the seal. Then I gently draw it out till the "front" of the rim kinda pops out of my body, the the rest comes out very easily. Then I can hold the cup around the sides to keep it upright and avoid spilling till I'm ready to empty it :)
Sounds like it was positioned just right. Here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Menstrual_cup_inserted.png)'s a diagram, and to contrast, here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Tampon_inserted.png)'s where a tampon sits. The only thing to add here is that it should be comfortable for YOU, so if that means wearing it a little higher or lower, or trimming the stem, have at :)

I posted here because I like this community and have been a part of it for a while. Everyone is nice and not snarky like other communites :X
