ooh! menstration! this is so exciting. ;)

so i recently read inga muscio's cunt
and now i am really eager to try sea sponges.

has any ever had any experience before using sponges to seep up the flow
rather than tampons or pads, for that matter?

i'd really be interested in hearing about experiences, pointers, etc.

by the way, if you all haven't read it yet, you must runrunRUN to your nearest wicked-est bookstore and purchase the handy-dandy book cunt. or you could just buy it here. believe me, you won't regret it. (plus at amazon you can buy it used. yay.)

oh, and i found a little bit about sponges here.

(by the way, sorry if all of this has been discussed before. just point me in the right direction. thanks. :)

my friend Ann (http://www.girlmoxie.com) has been using them. i'm sure she'd give you info if you told her Liza sent you her way. actually, she'd probably give you the info whether you mention me or not. she's cool like that.

I started using them after I read the same book. It's an amazing experience - I will probably *never* go back to pads or tampons, the only other thing I might try some day is the Keeper.

One thing though on sponges? you will very likely have to rinse them out at work/school once I day. I do it at lunchtime. So far I have just waited for everyone to be out of the room, but like she says, fuck 'em. it's a natural beautiful thing. Just trust me, you will get to see little blobs of uterus lining in all their glory - and it's a little odd sometimes.

you don't have to cut them much usually. You want the little blob to stay roughly that shape. What I did on mine is shaved it down a touch with a pair of scissors around the edges because I'm kinda small.. I kept on almost full size for heavy flow days and made one smaller for light ending days of the week.. I have been using the same 2 sponges for like 4 months or more now. I just keep them well rinsed throughout the week, then after I am done with them they get a good soak in hydrogen peroxide and then even longer soak in water to rinse them, and then I store them away for the next month. Actually if you can find the sea pearls ones, they have some instructions on them.

I have noticed that personally once you get through the first month it's not so bad ... the first month of stuffing it up in there and then having to pull it out without a string is a bit weird, but it's also brought me in touch with my own woman bits as well. I've actually found that for myself a sort of one-fingered scoop-push works well to slide the sponge in, and once it is in I really *can't* feel it, unlike cotton tampons, becuase it is a soft, natural substance, not a hard wad of cotton.

check out the Sea Pearls website too... they have more stuff on there. Good luck with them if you try them! They are the greatest thing I have personally ever found.
