My doctor wants to give me premarin (ugh horse piss) to stop an 18 day period that has no signs of stopping. I don't know why but HRT scares me. Anyone here have any experience with it?
(I have PCOS so once my period gets going like this I have to get it stopped).

Not directly, but my mother is on HRT (premarin) post-hysterectomy (& has been for years and years) and she has not a single problem with it. I know, because everytime it's in the media that HRT is the devil itself, she calls me to give me her terribly frank opinion of how great HRT is & how these people are trying to ruin her by threatening it's existence... so shall I just say that I've heard her opinion on HRT a lot?

Then again... my Mum was on the original birth control pill in the 60s (you know, original high dose hormones...) and also likes to give me lectures on how bloody great the pill is, when I can't take the modern low dose ones (let alone the high dose!) because of the side effects I get...

SO my point is: while you are your mother's daughter... you may not react to medicines the same way she does.

If HRT is anything like my Pill experience, you won't know until you try.

(and yes, my Mother likes to lecture me frequently if you're wondering now! :-P )

HRT has its fair share of risks and downsides (higher incidence of some kinds of cancer, etc), but for alot of women, it's a quality of life issue - they truly feel that their life with HRT is much better than it would be without, even accepting the risks that accompany it.
