New & Birth Control Question(s)

Greetings everyone. I just found this community. I joined because I'll be taking birth control for the first time in about a week/week in a half. My gynecologist gave me two packs of Yazz. Anyone else on this particular prescription? For those who are, have you had any/many side effects?

My doctor suggested this pill when I told her that my past few periods (well, I guess the PMS, really) have been wracked with major mood swings and cravings. It has affected my work immensely - I work in retail at a specialty store. If I can't face the clientele because I'm a sobbing mess, then I might as well call off. And I can't always do that. I haven't YET - I've left early once or twice, but never have called off. Basically, I hope that this will help to even me out.

yazz birth control

My 17 year old daughter has been on yazz for 4 months and was just admitted to the hospital yesterday with a deep vein thrombosis (blood clot) in her left thigh. The doctors are uncertain whether the birth control is a contributing factor, but she has no other health risks that would have caused this. They are in the process of doing tests, but as of yesterday she went off the pill and will never go on it again. She was originally put on it for PCOS and it did help her symptoms. A hard call to make on whether to go on it, as each person is different and reacts differently. But right now she is facing a lot of tests, twice daily shots of blood thinner, total bed rest for who knows how long, and the ever present threat of the blood clot breaking off and moving to her lungs. If I had to do it over again, I would never have let her go on it.

Thank you for your story. I am sorry that your daughter had to go to the hospital. Blood clots are never anything to take lightly.

Luckily I haven't had too many major issues, and it has helped my horrible PMS - but your story tells me to monitor my symptoms to see how it truly affects me.
