Sorry to post so soon again. I was wondering if there are things that you can do to make periods shorter. I am in the middle of a period that has lasted for the past two weeks and the bleeding is not about to let up any time soon. I believe that this has something to do with the depo-provera shot I had because without hormones my usual cycle lasts three to six days and there is nothing about my diet or lifestyle that has changed dramatically enough to effect my period this much.
Any ideas?

In my experience, hormone treatments eg birth control leads to shorter periods. So, I'm not sure that the depo is to blame for the long period but I've never had depo so I dont know. I've only taken the pill, but mine is usually shorter, lighter, and less painful.

Hi sorry this is probably random but..

Hi sorry i didn't know how to post a comment seperately for this so i had to reply to this to one. i was wondering if it's possible to get pregnant after being poked down there, i'm not posting as a joke, i'm really paranoid about it.

erm, anasthetics dont affect hbc - and antibiotics dont usually affect progestin-only methods (like depo, POPs, implanon).

hbc wont "mess with your hormones enough to give you a positive reading" because it's the wrong hormones - estrogen, progesterone (in hbc) and hcg (human pregancy hormone) are entirely different.

depo only takes a week to start working if you havent been on hbc and are starting it not on the first day of your period.

not an injection. . a guys finger... i know it's nothing to do with all the other things you guys are talking about but i've gotten really paranoid about it. i was really careful when we did have sex but it's all become paranoia even when it comes to things like this. it's affecting out relationship, i'm really reluctant to go on the pill cause although i know it's proven to prevent it there's still that minute chance and i can't get the possibility out of my mind. so we've stopped doing it, him "poking" me is the furthest i'm comfortable with now and now i'm even paranoid that could make pregnant.

fingers are fine as long as they're clean (ie he doesnt have semen on them and then fingers you). and perhaps you should talk to your doctor about this paranoia, and about a realistic risk assessment of any kind of birth control.

seriously, dont let this paranoia ruin your relationship!

thanks, really appreciate it. yeah the paranoia's gotten to that point where he actually does wash his hands before we do things...
It's taken a toll on our relationship already, but i'm lucky he's been there for me through all this.

thanks again for replying, I'm comtemplating about going on the pill and whether we should put things on hold for now while i'm getting sorted.

definitely talk to your doctor/family planning clinic.

pausing sexual contact might be a good short-term idea, but in the long-term, your best resource is education (about your body and birth control).

good luck!

only if he had semen on his fingers and then touched you _immediately_ afterwards.

have you considered joining [livejournal.com profile] birthcontrol or [livejournal.com profile] femmehealth or reading up about birth control and it's associated risks?

If you've been bleeding for two weeks, I'd call your doctor stat. I believe that depo can have that side effect (along with many, many others... yuck), but it's still very much not a good thing. Get in touch with your doctor as soon as you can, and in the meantime take iron supplements or eat iron rich foods to make up for the blood that you're losing.

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.
