depo shot question.

I searched through the memories and didn't find the answer I was looking for..so boo.
here we go.
I missed my last depo shot and when I went and saw my gyno he said I had to wait until my next period to get it..(I had to visit him anyways for a yearly checkup)
my last shot was in April, I was supposed to get another shot in late June..and totally missed it. by a good few weeks.
my doctor said I should get my period within a few weeks of being off the shot..
but I have also read that it could take as long as a year for a woman to get their period after they are off the shot...
I get cramps here and there..but no period.
ugh..any info. would be awesome..or personal experiences. =0)

from personal experience, I had my last depo shot in july of 2003, and didn't have another period until april of 2004, when I ended up taking plan b-- it kick-started my period, but until that, nothing.

I was on depo for three years, and my periods eventually stopped altogether. I don't know if it's typical for everyone, but it's what happened to me.

A lot of people's do. My best friend, however, bled for six months non-stop on the shot and chose not to continue it-- whether she would have tapered off eventually I'm not sure, but it definitely seems to be a polar thing.

my doctor told me that you could spot or stop your period when you're on depo.
obviously mine stopped.
and everyone I have talked to had their period stop when they were on the shot.

Well, I think it took me two or three months, maybe longer, before my period showed signs of coming back. Then it took another several months before it settled down into a regular pattern.

That was my experience anyway.

ask your doctor if you can restart the depo after taking a pregnancy test (which is probably why he asked you to wait til your next period)
