I have been taking Mircette for the past five years and have never had a missed period while on it. I originally began taking it due to inconsistent menstrual cycles. My period would have normally began on Saturday, as last week was my week of placebo pills and I ended up not getting it.

I took a pregnancy test yesterday just to be certain even though my SO and I use both the pill and condoms (we don't always use condoms religiously) for protection to rule out that it could be pregnancy and got a negative result.

My question to you wise individuals is what could be causing it to be late/missed? The only real changes I've had this month is some insomnia/lack of sleep and I've been taking more doses of my inhaled steroids for asthma more often this month than I usually do. I know that the steroids can effect your cycle but my doctor assured me that the pill would usually take care of that.

Is this cause for concern? Should I be doubting the results of the pregnancy test? A few people I've talked to said it isn't unusual and I should wait for my next cycle.

Also, now that I am back on a hormone week of my next pill pack will it be impossible for me to get this months period until next months cycle date? I'm very uninformed when it comes to things like these so please forgive me.

Any help/advice would be very much appreciated.

I would wait a week, and take another test, at first morning pee. If you dont have your period by then, and it is still negative, get a blood test. I had a freind that was three months in and still getting negative tests, but the blood test was postive.

did you miss any pills? take them late?

occasionally it's not unusual to miss a period. if you've taken your pills correctly, your chance of pregnancy is low - however if you miss a second period, then definitely see your doctor.

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] taldragon. You can absolutely take a test, but there's not much cause for alarm unless you miss two. Your pill pamphlet will confirm this.
