Does anyone in the hut have an answer to this rather curious phenomenon?

2 weeks a go, I skipped my green pills and went directly into my next pack, in order that I might also skip my period (had a big weekend with the boy planned). It worked - no period, no weirdness, no problem. However, I'm now almost done with the second week's pills - and my period has decided to make a surprise (and rather copious) appearance. Why might this be? Any ideas? Comments?

What kind of pills are you taking?

I'm on that too :)

It's a triphasic pill, I believe, meaning that there's three different hormone levels. If you skip the placebo pills, then breakthrough bleeding will occur. That's why monophasic pills are usually recommended for skipping your period :) Don't worry too much about it, it's probably more of a hassel than anything else.

When I tried the same thing with ortho-tri-cyclen, I had breakthrough bleeding to the point that I was essentially having my period for two and a half weeks. It sucked.

Well, the last four or five days were pretty light, but yeah, it's still lame.

you should ask your doctor about getting on a different pill. you're suppose to ask them about skipping periods, but heck, i did it to. i'm on just orthcycle and i've only once had break through bleeding, but thats normal, just so you know.

i'm not on ortho, like everyone else, but this did happen to me so i think it might be common to a lot of birth controls. mine stayed away for the week it was supposed to be there, but for the next 2 weeks, i essentially had a light period.

a friend of mine who was on ortho-tri-cyclen did that same thing, and she had the same effect -- a two week period. It was also especially full of clots. She called it her alien baby. So hey, it's normal!
