color range of periods?

I was just going through my LJ, noticed that I had described first blood as 'orangy/mouldy' looking and wondered what color range was considered 'normal'? I have had orangey, fresh blood, dark blood, brownish..and even what I'd say was a clear period (before the real stuff started) that smelt like a period, had the consistency of period blood and had all the associated cramps etc - except it was clear.
