Would changing birth control medications cause your period to change colors? Usually my period is a normal red color but it's literally like, black, and it has been the past two days since it started.

Or are there any other reasons for this? I guess my eating patterns have changed within the last month as well so maybe that is it.

If it helps, the new pill I'm on is Lybrel and it is taken 365 days a year with no placebo or interval periods. Apparently it's supposed to make your period stop? from what I'm reading on the website... http://www.lybrel.com/safety/spotting/ that's interesting. I should talk to my doctor about that. Maybe that's why it changed color?

I know that, depending on which b/c I'm on, mine changes colors. Black isn't unusual.
You might wanna get it checked out by your doc though...just in case.

Black, brown, red, purple - it's all normal. Lybrel will eventually cause you to have no periods. I'm surprised your doctor didn't mention that when s/he prescribed it!

Um, wow. That's kind of frightening, actually. I'm glad you thought to check out the website. I think we have a couple of members on it over at [livejournal.com profile] birthcontrol. You can check out our tagged entries on Lybrel (http://community.livejournal.com/birthcontrol/tag/lybrel) if you're interested.

With regards to the black...

This is clotting...
probably due to your periods becoming suppressed.

Without disrespect to your doctor, it is not good that they changed the birth control type without your consent, as you were not aware of the changes that could happen, also- as is happening now, you are likely to be alarmed by the changes.

it's quite a big deal with regards to your hormones too- and while you can always change back if you decide, the thing about hormones is that they fuction best to your advantage when maintained in balance and regular rhythm, and too much messing with this can cause problems at a later stage- especially with regards to fertility.

Wishing you well,

X Blessings

There's nothing in hormonal birth control that causes infertility, and switching pills won't cause it either. I think you're being overly alarmist, and might frighten the OP with no real reason.
