hi all,

hoping this is the right place to ask this question. i've looked in the memories, searched EC websites, and googled my little heart out, all rather unsuccessfully. here goes:

my period has always been fairly irregular. i guess i'd average the entire cycle at around a month and a half. i've never been able to keep track of it using a calendar, but i ALWAYS know when it's coming because of bodily symptoms (tender breasts, bloating, and usually a big zit on my chin -- all signs that it's coming).

anyway, on the 14th of september i had unprotected sex and took emergency contraception the following day. i had had my period END exactly one week prior to taking the EC. within a week of taking it, i got my period again (lighter in flow and color). however, since that time, i have NOT had my period.

i don't have any symptoms of pregnancy OR of PMS. i have taken three HPTs (the latest one two weeks ago) and all have been negative. the only recent symptom i've noticed is tender nipples, which is different from the tender breast feeling i normally get during PMS.

what i'm wondering is: is it possible/normal for EC to mess up the period AFTER the period that immediately follows EC? i definitely would not be surprised if that huge dose of hormones messed me up for a couple of months, but it's been three months since aunt flo has visited and i'd just like some peace of mind. and maybe some tips on period-inducing! i've started taking lots of vitamin c (i don't know where i read that that helped) but so far all it's done is give me the runs.

help! sorry this was so long-winded!
thanks so much.

Yes, it's possible. EC is basically a hormone overdose, so it may take your body a while to recover. If you're confident you're not pregnant (and you've taken tests, so it sounds like you are) then don't worry about it. Your body will sort itself out over time. Stress can affect your periods, too, and it sounds like you're stressed about this.

If you have any doubts at all, go see a doctor for a definitive pregnancy test.

I don't have any experience with EC but I bet it could definitely do something to your period.

I took EC once and it screwed me up pretty badly on my next period. I got freaked and had to take a blood pregnancy test and get a pelvic exam before I was convinced I wasn't pregnant. I'm nuts, I know. But i have been there. Good luck!

this exact thing happened to me too - i got my period early about a week after taking EC and then the period after that was massively late - it just took me a few months to get over the hormones I think.. I found I had worse PMS for about 6 months after taking it as well
