Okay, so I was off birth control completely this past month to give my body a break (I had my period for 4 weeks last month!) I'm due to start Nuvaring again tomorrow, BUT that would mean that I'll have my period for the ONE night when my roommate is gone (April 19th) which means my boyfriend and I have the room to ourselves all night, something that never ever ever happens and I really don't want to waste the opportunity. So it seems my two options are:
1. Put the Nuvaring in right now, and put a new one in early in the day on the 19th, or even the day before, so my period stops before the evening of the 19th OR
2. Delay my period that month, but I'm not sure if that will royally fuck me up and/or backfire since it's only my first month back on hormones.

HELP! PLEASE! I'll be eternally grateful.

Are you new to Nuvaring? Some out of cycle bleeding is normal if you're first adjusting, but the entire month whether you're new to it or not is something you really need to tell your doctor.

What's concerning is that if you're bleeding this much to begin with anything you do may not really do anything. However, you can keep your Nuvaring in up to 4 weeks safely, or put a new one in right away after 3 weeks without a break for your period.

Personally, I'd recommend calling your doctor's office now; you may need to change brands or methods in the meantime. Good luck, though.

Ahhhh. I see - no, that wasn't clear. Well you don't know exactly which day you'll get your period on, or for how long, but you still have two choices - you can keep your ring in an extra week, or try to skip your period.

If I had to guess, I'd say keeping your ring in an extra week is probably less likely to cause problems given that it's your first month back on the pill. But again - no guarantees.

i've been on nuvaring for about....5 years now. i've skipped my period twice with it and didn't have a problem. Off label usage--you can leave it in for four weeks. To skip you can leave it in for up to four weeks, take it out, and immediately insert a new one. You can also leave it in for four weeks to delay your period then take it out after 4. It stops being effective after that so either take it out and bleed or insert a new one. I'm actually doing that now (I forgot to take it out last week and don't feel like changing my calender markings) and am having zero problems physically. But everyone is different. I <3 my Nuvaring. It's not like Ortho where you have to futz with the pills in weird order or something (from what I hear) to skip your period. It's actually quite easy. And again, I've not had a problem now nor the last time I did it (for the same reason--boyfriend was in town).

I can't have my period on my honeymoon!

So my wedding and honeymoon are coming up in October and I am due to take my ring out the day after me wedding. Should I keep the ring in for 4 weeks or take it out after 3 weeks and put a new one in right away?

It's up to you. I tend to leave it in for four weeks and then put in a new one when I'm skipping my period. But I've heard some people putting a new one in after three weeks. It's completely up to you. Ironically, Nuva Ring makes my periods really light so I think that helps with any potential for breakthrough spotting, which I have NEVER had a problem with.

Why not just have your period and have sex? Find and old towel to lay under you or have sex in the shower? I've found that it actually makes my period lighter and less crampy.
