This is a fabulous idea, I'm glad I found this community. :)

Anyway, I'm looking for some ideas for my little sister, age 15. She gets terrible cramps during the first few days of her period (she's been sent home from school, etc.) Midol etc seems to work, but I'm worried because she seems to have to take so much of it. She sometimes also takes Dramamine at the same time because she gets nausea. What else could she do? I just don't think all these drugs are good for her, OTC or not. Ideas...?

Thanks. :)

In regards to the last two posts I decided to make this visible for all to see.

Here are some methods for abating the pain:

Calcium (milk, yogurt)
Caffine (or niacin)
Dark colored fruit (plums, blueberries)
Exercise (only temporary)
Relaxation
Hot water bottle on tummy

Really bad pain:

I've found that filling the bath tub with warm water and getting in, and just lying in the there and floating is very nice. The water offers a zero-gravity environment which can also be beneficial.

And... if none of these works - find yourself a mild muscle relaxer or a large amount of the pain killers of your choice. I go with a strong Aleve myself.

And [livejournal.com profile] miaokitty, in regards to your sister taking the heavy drugs - no it isn't a good thing, but sometimes... it gets just that bad.

Interesting fact: women in the United States, Canada, Australia - and progressively developing countries are the only countries that have women that develop menstrual cramps. There are some cultures that don't even have a name for what we experience.

Hello ladies! Mind if I scoot back on in the hut? I haven't come to visit in a couple cycles, and haven't even lurked over here in a month. Some mean stuff was said to me, so I laid low. But I've found that I miss you guys a lot and would like to come back to this pennacle of womanhood and celebrate my feminity once more. So if no one minds...I'd like to say that Cramps Are No Fun, especially since I seem to only get them about once every 3 months now. They're gradually getting worse too...I hope to never go back to the days of my debiliating ones that kept me in bed for an entire day huddled in a ball crying. I'm really happy to write here again and hope everyone is doing well. I've missed you!

Enters...

*enters, takes a seat in the circle, picks up a drum and starts drumming rhythmically*

Actually, its good that it came this week... I have vacation and a convention to go to late next week... so this is a bit of a celebration.

Every month...around this lovely time....when my moods begin to swing....I become highly irrational. Every time, around this time, I try and break up with my bf...quit my job...and other such things. I get extremely emotional. Does anyone's elses period have this affect on them? Is there anything to do about the emotional part of your cycle?
