And it appears I have some sort of stomach bug on top of getting my period the same day. Oh BLEARGH.

I couldn't eat all day. I managed to sip some Coke. I finally had some crackers and a biscuit at the end of the day. But still, there's very little appetite and I'm feverish, cramping, and headachy.

I am going to just sleep, sleep, sleep, to avoid the pain. That, and to block out how I'm feeling, because I'm emotionally thin-skinned all day. I think I will just cry my eyes out if I stay awake much longer. All these stupid insecurities come up when I'm like this, and I'm not sure I can trust my feelings but I feel them nonetheless.

I've been hearing a lot of discussion on this list lately about the Keeper, but very little to nothing about Instead (see http://www.softcup.com/faq.html). Has anyone tried both who can make a comparison?

I've been able to have intercourse with an Instead (though note man still has to wear a condom -- don't know if using a female condom would be better) and find that I forget it's there it's so comfy to wear. About the only drawbacks I can see is that the Instead is disposable and sometimes difficult to remove.

I look at the Keeper, and it looks like it might be easily dislodged by intercourse. And while it is reusable, I think infection is likely if I wasn't absolutely religious about cleaning it between reinsertions (which I'm not sure what that entails; sex toys require boiling and bleaching).

Thoughts, experiences, & comments appreciated. =)

waiting impatiently for that knock from Aunt Flo? Some sure-fire ways to make your period come:

-don't wear underwear and go to sleep on white sheets.
-use a pregnancy test.
-go on vacation and forget to bring tampons/pads/whatever.
-go to visit a sexual partner you don't get to see often.
-go to work without tampons/pads/whatever.
-plan a special sexy evening with your SO.

and the #1 way to get Aunt Flo to visit...

-wear white underwear.

This is my first time posting in this community, so Hi :) *waves*

I just had a very nice period because I got a Keeper, what a wonderful invention :)

(if you don't know what a keeper is, check it out at http://www.keeper.com)

I had an IUD fitted 6 months ago. I have the Nova-T, it's a plain T shaped one that doesn't release hormones.
I'm 22 and haven't had any children so the doctor from the family planning clinic was a bit reluctant to let me have one, but when she saw that I was serious about wanting one she finally agreed.

I found that having my IUD fitted was a lot more comfortable than I expected, I didn't feel anything at all when the doc opened my cervix, then I could feel some very slight poking around in my uterus when she was putting the IUD in place. It took her quite a while, and I developped a crampy ache, but I was still ok, then it was finished, and I was like "is that all?" I felt silly for being so nervous!

Since having it I've found that my periods are heavier and a day or two longer, but I expected that anyway. I wouldn't say I have much worse cramps, just different. Instead of the usual dull ache I used to have I sometimes have sharp stabbing pains too, especially on the first day (sometimes really bad!).

The only thing that annoys me about the IUD is that I have a lot of pain on the last day of my period, and even a day or two after, I never had that before so it seems strange. Also sometimes in the middle of my cycle or at odd times I get cramps and bleed a little.

I'm trying to be patient and stick with it though, these annoying problems slowly get better with each period. And I'm glad to be free from the side affects of the pill like the mood swings, tiredness, constant desire to eat etc.(I tried different brands but they all bothered me, I think I'm very sensetive to hormones)
About two weeks after stopping the pill I felt like a black cloud had been lifted! I felt so much more clear headed and energised. I lost all the excess weight and water the pill made me gain too.

So I'd love to hear how any women here have found their IUDs???

Sorry for such a long post, I'm just happy to have found a community where you can talk about period stuff without people getting silly and grossed out LOL

thanks for setting up this community :)

i used to be really irregular, so i talked to my doctor and had him put me on birth control. since i'm a tiny girl, and would only be taking it for regularity cuz i'm only fifteen, i was given the lowest possible dose. i took the sample pack, started it on time, and too it religiously for two weeks. those two weeks i felt absolutely horrible. i was queasy all the time and i literally stopped eating because i had no appetite and i was scared i couldn't keep it down. i had to stop taking them. i heard somewhere that it's extremely common for women taking the pill for the first time to have some side effects like mine for the first few months. i really don't like the idea of forcing my body into a pattern with pills, and the side effects made me stop taking them. is this normal, or is it because i'm so young? could it just be i reacted weird?
