I've been taking birth control (Kariva) for about a year and a half for menstrual regularity. This hasn't typically been any problem for me, until now. My prom is on May 17th, and according to my pills, I'd be on my period. I really don't want this to happen--I just hate the idea of having to change my tampon and carry them in my purse, etc.

My question: is there any way I could NOT have my period that week? Would it be possible for me to take the period pills next week and then take the ones I should be taking next week the week after? I know that sounds confusing, but hopefully some of you got it.

I usually don't have a period unless a take the pills, if that helps any. Thanks!

I was on Kariva for at least 5 years. At the beginning my period was great. It was predictable and timely. After a while my cycle readjusted and I wasn't bleeding until the last day of the "period pills". I think this must be a permanent switch because I changed from Kariva to the NuvaRing (because the irregularity of my periods was driving me crazy). Now with the NuvaRing, I have flexability with when I take the ring out and when I put it back in. Something you don't have a lot of with pills.

You should really follow the instructions that are included with the packet of pills. Chances are that if you take your Period Pills early, you aren't going to bleed as you might expect. In turn, you may screw up your cycle.

One thing you could do is, call your doctor. She will know for sure.

Just skip the sugar pill week and start taking the next pack of pills. It should be fine for one cycle. When you're using hormonal contraceptives your cycle is artificial anyway. There is always the chance that you get break through bleeding (when bleeding happens while taking hormonal pills, but it usually is not as much as a regular period. Just make sure you have a regular cycle the next time.

You can safely just skip your period - go from actives to actives. As [livejournal.com profile] bi_ballerina says, there's always a chance you may have some spotting anyway, but without trying to skip theres a 100% chance you'll have your period, so you've got nothing to lose. :)

I was told by my gyno that's it's safe to skip your period several times a year -- I do it if we go on vacation, when we went to pick up our adopted daughter, etc. It's never caused me any problems. You just start the active pills right away instead of taking the week of sugar pills.
