longer-than-usual period?

So, for the approximate 10 years that I've had my period now, it has always been fairly regular -- 28 day cycle, 5 day periods. I've never experienced a change from this that was larger than a day or so, until this month. Right now, I am on the 9th day of my period. It hasn't been lighter than usual or anything like that, it's just lasting a hell of a lot longer. Any ideas what could be causing this, and should I be worried?

you know how if you starve yourself your period doesn't come? well if you don't eat while you're on it will it go away faster?
