update. :)
Nov. 15th, 2008 06:22 pmI went to the gyno the other day. First thing she gave me a pregnancy test and confirmed that I'm not pregnant. We talked about birth control and other stuff and she didn't even see any reason to give me an exam since I'm not "sexually active", but I requested one anyway.
I have a couple questions.
*she gave me a couple sample boxes of yaz, and I was just wondering if there is an ideal time to start it, or if I can take the first pill pretty much whenever I want. I was thinking that it might make me feel more comfortable if I waited until after my next period, just to make sure that I actually get one.
*does anyone have any experience with yaz and any input to share? I guess it is the pill my doctor actually uses and she's pretty thrilled with it. I do have pretty bad PMS symptoms, and she explained that it was a low dose birth control pill. I most likely need a verrrry low dose because all the women in my family have had problems with nausea and such on birth control.
*I am still having a LOT of discharge. I've really never experienced this much before. When I explained it to the gyno she didn't seem to be alarmed, but she did deem it enough of a symptom to have an exam. I suppose I'll know for sure in a week or so when she calls me, but my mother seems to think that if I had any kind of infection or anything she would have been able to tell during the exam. Should I be concerned at all that this is signaling some other problem with my body? I've been thinking that maybe all the stressing and the decrease in eating could be a cause. I've never really put my body through so much stress before.
Also, I've still been having trouble eating. Sometimes I dread trying to swallow food, and I seem to feel full after only a couple of bites. This probably isn't the place to ask this type of question, but I was just wondering if anyone thinks this warrants a check up or anything. I always feel hungry, I just never have an appetite. This problem didn't really start happening until the "pregnancy scare" but coinicidences can happen I guess. My boyfriend thinks my body is just having a hard time settling down from all the stress, and he's attempting to be very gentle and help me "get through this".
You are all wonderful people and I thank you so much for all the help.

Date: 2008-11-16 12:51 am (UTC)the GYN would have given you meds for any kind of infection. Some months I get more discharge than others for no reason.

Date: 2008-11-16 01:02 am (UTC)Otherwise, it may be more time than you're expecting before you get your period. For instance, if you have regular 28ish day cycles, and you start your pills mid-cycle, you won't get your period (plus or minus some adjustment bleeding) for another 4 weeks. See?
It would seem logical that "low-dose" (which only refers to the estrogen) would equal "low side-effects", and in general that's true. But it's not as simple as the lower you get, the less you have, otherwise we'd all be on a low dose. :) Doctors often have a brand they like to prescribe first - that's fine. Hopefully you'll feel great on it. If by chance you don't - no worries, there are lots of other brands, and your doctor can prescribe another one for you based on your experience with Yaz.
Good luck!

Date: 2008-11-16 01:42 am (UTC)And yes, I know that lower estrogen doesn't always mean low side effects. It's kind of just an assumption we've made because my mom could not handle birth control at all when she was a teenager without getting ill, during pregnancy she was sick nonstop, and my sister always gets sick when she misses a pill and doubles up. So, everyone has basically told me that less horomone= less sickness. :p

Date: 2008-11-16 02:36 pm (UTC)Your cycle length is the number of days between the first day of one period and the first day of your next. It doesn't matter how long your period is.
Your mom very likely couldn't handle birth control because the dosages were much higher 20-30 years ago. Even compared to an "average" dose pill now. Your sister is getting sick because she's taking twice the normal dosage. :)
