Hey everyone -- I've been lurking for a while and I had a question about birth control pills:

Does anyone else ever skip the week of placebo pills in their pack and just continue on to the next pack? I did it the first time to avoid having my period while I was traveling, but since then I do it every other month, so I get my period every 7th week, instead of every 4th week.

There's a recent article here, describing how some doctors think its unnecessary to have a period while on BC pills. Thoughts?

I do it sometimes too, I don't think it's a major problem. I don't however, advocate not having your period at all. I use my period as a way to monitor my health, if its late, short, heavy, light...all of these things can be indications of other health problems and it's good to know your periods so you have something to compare.

It's nice to have the break. My own gyn advises against it unless you have some health problem where it would be beneficial not to have your period. I, personally, let the flow come every month. I'm using the pill primarily as birth control at this point so it's good to know every month that I haven't screwed up.

dont quote me on all this call i cant find the actual magazine i read it in....
but it said that some doctors think that its not necessary for a women to have her period unless she pregnant , breastfeeding or wanting kids. they even said that some doctors have linked the period to some cancers.

i dont know how i feel about all that....but its nice not having a period.

i was on depo and pretty much never had a period. ecept when i was close to getting a new shot and then i'd go away after i got the shot. dunno with the pill though....
