hey!

i just recently joined the Hut, and decided to post an introduction since i started a couple days ago. (:

my name is carley, i'm 20, live in seattle, blah blah blah.. and i love being a woman, every aspect of it! :D

i came across the fascinating little buggers first when reading Inga Musico's masterpiece CUNT (praise be to inga!) and was tempted to try them out. i've always been very protective of my jewel and had therefore never used a tampon, but the idea of not having to walk around with a bulky thing in my underwear sounded nice. bonus since they're 100% natural. anyhow. so a few months ago, i used them for the first time. the ones i got are fairly small, and for the most part they're very comfortable, but by the 2nd day of each period they begin to get a wee bit painful to insert or pull out.

i should probably add that i'm a lesbian, and have never had sexual intercourse with a man. since i've never used tampons, either, the only things that have ever been INSIDE my vagina are, to put it bluntly, fingers and tongues. :P so this was something new for it. thus, i would probably be described as "tight". i don't know if it's because of this, or because maybe i don't produce enough vaginal fluids, or maybe it's the soap i use (dr. bronner's peppermint), but they just make me really sensitive, to the point that it was too uncomfortable to insert one this morning.

has anyone else ever had this "problem"? have you found ways to fix it? should i just trim the sea sponges? any advice would be extremely appreciated. (:

thanks so much!

What I do is I have one larger, wider one for the first day or two when I am heavy and a smaller, more trimmed one for the other 2-3 days. Also, and this sounds silly, but I try to rinse mine at least 3 times a day in warm water and always insert it damp. I've noticed if I am dry it *can* be rather difficult/painful and, well, I either get myself 'wet' a little, or suck it up.. usually once it's in there, the warm moistness isn't so bad, or the blood and regular natural lubrication takes care of things.

I would say thoguh that if you are using the Dr Bronners, I wouldn't use it *there* .. but that's because I had a doctor tell me that part of the reason I kept getting yeast infections was because I used soap in that area and was killing off my moisture and natural anti-yeast flora (she was right - go fig).

hope that helps!
