I answered this as best as I could, but there are some things that I couldn't answer, really.
I only use one absorbency of tampon, regular, because any tampon larger than that is painfully uncomfortable. Even the small regular tampons can sometimes be too much, causing pressure and pain.
I answered "curse", but I don't really consider my period itself a curse. I consider the endometriosis, which causes my periods to be so painful, to be the curse.
If you're using Tampax, have you tried the Satin versions? They're a bit smaller, on average, than the "normal" kind, so I've found them much more comfortable...
Those are exactly the ones I use! They are basically the equivalent of the "slender regular" but the smoother applicator makes them easier to insert.
Tampax was the first type of tampon I ever used. So it really is "my mother's tampon". I've tried other brands, and I don't like them. OB is too harsh- the fabric they make it out of is rough and stiff and hurts me. Playtex is too thick- the sort of folded circle shape they are made out of puts a lot of pressure on my vagina. It's like a lump of tampon in my vagina. Ouch.
I'm going to order a Keeper, but for now, I'm sticking with Satin. Although they can still be painful, they are the least painful tampon I've ever used. And I don't wear diapers.
*nods* I feel the same way about OB and Playtex. I've also tried Instead but had a heck of a time getting the thing in (although I'm thinking that with practice I could have managed). Also, there's an even smaller ("junior") version of the Satin tampons, *but* -- and this is very unfortunate -- they only come in the multi-packs, and then only four at a time. So you buy this entire multipack, get 4 juniors, 16 regulars, and 16 supers you can't use (I certainly can't use them, anyway). Phooey.
I'm still intrigued by the Keeper but haven't quite got the nerve to order one. Maybe for April...
PS -- thanks for the compliments on my new userpic...I love having short hair again!!
hey do you have any good info about endometriosis. my mother has it, and she thinks i may have it, but my gyno didnt' really pay much attention when i mentioned that i think that i may have it. (i'm looking for a new gyno). she said it takes time to develop...but im already 23 how much more time does it need? what sort of symptoms did you have? thanks!
Some of my symptoms are: extreme, severe cramping, vaginal pain, pain during intercourse, illness or fever during menstruation. I usually get a fever the first day of my period, and I often feel feverish during my period. MY immune system also gets a bit suppressed- if I'm gonna get sick, or something's going around, that's when I'll get it.
Talk to your dr about the symptoms you think you might have, even if I did not list your symptoms. Twenty-three is certainly old enough for endo to develop, but if you are having painful periods, there could be a different problem.
I said 'blessing' coz when I didn't get it for a while (health problems) I really missed it and was suprised at how strongly I felt about it; it was like I felt like I wasn't A GIRL anymore and I felt left out of all kinds of interactions other women had. when it came back I felt welcomed into the lunar sisterhood again! before that I would have said I didn't care if I got it or not but apparently I really do :)
i ve never had my period regularily. of course theres been times when i had it almost every month (uhm those when i took the pill) and the first breaks i had from it where comfy to me. but only until i felt like, ugh.. what if i get it today or tomorrow just unprepared ?
currently i m again in one of those menstruation-free periods, ever since i dropped the pill i didnt get it and it sucks like sth is wrong with me and i m not whole i m fucked up and there is no rythm.
i just dont think i could handle not being able to get kids..
so hey, if your body works well that way, appreciate it : )
Hmm... my pre-menstrual symptoms aren't mentioned at all in the survey list. I answered "basically just cramps" but that's not really true since I never cramp before my period comes. But the first day of bleeding: oy!
For the week before my period, my breasts *hurt*! It hurts to walk because they bounce a little bit, it hurts when my boy hugs me, and when a cat steps full weight on my chest... OW! I also get clumsy. I drop stuff, cut myself while preparing food, run into door frames... It's like my sense of where my body is gets skewed.
I also get the nesting instinct. I get rather predictable urges to deep clean the house, cook elaborate food, bake from scratch, or be crafty in the week or so before I start bleeding. It's like I want to be sure I have a clean comfy nourishing place to be when I'm in my moon-time.
i get the same exact symptoms. i usually clean my entire apartment the day before and the night before i always end up crying about something stupid. always.
to clarify
